Why it matters to produce locally.

ethical fashion locally made slow fashion sustainable

People like to talk about products that are being made in Australia. But why does it matter?

Regardless of what is happening politically with international trade, it is always better to buy and support your local and national producers. Buy buying Australian, we are not only supporting our local communities and people but also the world environment by cutting the CO2 emissions and raw materials.

Did you know that each and every item of clothing, accessories and shoes, that's each and everyone, comes packaged individually in a plastic bag? Furthermore, all products are sprayed with formaldehyde to prevent them from creasing and mould.

Formaldehyde has been proven to cause watery eyes; burning sensations in the eyes, nose, and throat, coughing, wheezing, nausea, and skin irritation. This is particularly true for kids who are much more sensitive to the environment and react faster than adults to chemicals.  As for the plastic bags, well we know what happens to them, they end up in landfills and our oceans and seas. We have worked very hard to stop plastic bags in our grocery stores but what about the bags that are our products are wrapped in?

So next time you are looking to buy something special, a gift, dress, jewelry or just an awesome T-shirt, look inside the label, see where it was made and ask yourself, what is the "real cost" of the garment, the one that is not on the tag.
